The Baby Armoire

Nursery decorating is one of the most exciting and special things expectant parents will do in preparation for baby. Often, parents will fall into the cartoon or theme trap and while many themes are fun and fun to look at, they don’t have much staying power.

After the first year or two of looking at the same cartoon characters, chances are both the growing child and his or her parents will begin to tire of it and want a change. With that said, it’s wise to keep the basics such as furniture and larger items neutral. Investing in long-lasting pieces such as  baby armoires and a convertible crib that transforms into a bed is a smart move.

Choosing the right furniture for baby’s room will depend on the existing décor of the home and the individual tastes of baby’s parents. While a baby armoire is a specialized piece, it can often be used for many years depending on the style, size and finish. A small armoire for baby’s room can become a treasured keepsake as well as a much needed storage area for many of baby’s daily items.

The material  the baby armoire is created from might be genuine oak, walnut or pine or for the budget minded parents, a veneer version of these woods which is a thin layer of the wood glued over a less expensive type of wood such as particle board. This type of cabinetry probably won’t last for many years but will serve it’s purpose for the first few years.

Utilizing baskets, tapestry boxes, a clothing rod, hooks, and hanging organizers, mom and dad can turn a simple baby armoire into a full capacity storage cabinet that holds everything from clothing to books, toys, changing items, shoes and even memorabilia of baby’s firsts.

Many furniture retailers carry painted baby armoires or will custom paint a baby armoire that features dainty patterns, bold graphics or even storybook scenes.  Also, for the artistic or do-it-yourself parents, these furniture must-haves are sold unfinished so they can be painted or otherwise stained and finished to their liking. Of course custom or otherwise painted styles are often quite expensive but their uniqueness may be worth the investment.

When shopping for baby furniture or for a baby armoire, the Internet offers the widest selection and usually the very best prices. For shopping locally visit furniture stores that specialize in kid’s and baby’s furniture collections.
